Dopo aver infiammato il palco del Centrale Rock Pub con il loro primo e atteso concerto in Italia gli svizzeri Ernte portano il loro metallo nero gelido e misantropico sulle nostre pagine virtuali. La band elvetica formata da V Noir e Askahex ha battezzato il pubblico italiano con il proprio oscuro rituale durante la seconda edizione dell’Insubrian Black Metal Festival e a pochi giorni dal loro debutto live sul suolo tricolore, ecco cosa ci hanno raccontato. Benvenuti sulla nostra webzine. Per iniziare, potreste presentare la band ai nostri lettori? Come è nato il progetto nel 2020? Grazie per averci invitato a questa intervista. Nel 2020, l’anno del coronavirus, Häxär ha deciso di non accontentarsi solo di dipinti cupi e suoni dark ambient ma di assecondare la sua vecchia passione per il black metal degli anni ’90 e dare inizio a un progetto. Ha cercato dei compagni di band adatti e, dopo alcuni tentativi a vuoto, ha trovato la persona giusta in me, Askahex. Avevamo una visione chiara e il nostro obiettivo fin dall’inizio era quello di pubblicare un album con un’etichetta discografica, cosa che è diventata realtà appena un anno dopo.
La vostra musica incarna perfettamente un’atmosfera molto fredda, tradizionale e misantropica.Quali sono state le principali motivazioni, musicali e personali, che vi hanno portato a creare Ernte? Come ho accennato in precedenza, Häxär è fortemente influenzato dal black metal degli anni ’90. Ma gli piace anche ascoltare band più recenti provenienti da Finlandia, Francia o Germania. Personalmente, la mia storia è più radicata nel doom metal. Mi piace ancora tutto ciò che è lento, brutale ed estremo, ma ho anche una predilezione per l’atmosfera e le melodie del black metal. L’assurdità della modernità e il nostro disprezzo per la mentalità da gregge delle persone giocano un ruolo importante. Ma i miei testi sono anche ispirati dalla vasta quantità di letteratura che ho letto nel corso della mia vita. Come specialista di lingua e letteratura tedesca e romanza, ho studiato a fondo tutte le epoche della letteratura europea e ho letto molti testi stimolanti: il mio autore preferito in assoluto è Georg Trakl (n.d.r.: poeta espressionista austriaco vissuto a cavallo tra XIX e XX secolo).
Concettualmente e spiritualmente, cosa significano per voi l’essenza della “fiamma nera” e il mondo della stregoneria e degli spiriti antichi? In che modo questi elementi alimentano la vostra ispirazione lirica e musicale? Per noi la fiamma nera simboleggia principalmente spiriti, valori e tradizioni antiche. Ci consideriamo i portatori di questa fiamma, insieme a molte altre band che contribuiscono a far sì che questo fuoco non si spenga mai. I nostri testi trattano, tra le altre cose, di storie antiche, miti e leggende, nonché di stregoneria. Il femminile e la natura sono strettamente connessi.
La Svizzera ha una storia leggendaria nel campo dell’extreme metal. Come vi sentite legati al patrimonio della vostra terra e com’è la scena underground svizzera al momento?Ci sono band di amici che vorresti consigliarci? Sì, la Svizzera ha sicuramente dei grandi nomi da offrire, come Celtic Frost, Samael e Coroner, considerando quanto è piccolo il nostro paese. Ovviamente, te ne rendi conto quando inizi a fare musica estrema e ascolti quelle vecchie band. Ad esempio, ho ascoltato molto i Samael nel 2002, quando sono entrata nella mia prima “vera band”. Ma non credo che si possa sentire quell’influenza nella musica degli Ernte. La scena black metal svizzera oggi è variegata e ci sono parecchie buone band, incluse alcune molto giovani. La maggior parte di loro, tuttavia, difficilmente diventerà nota al di fuori dei confini del paese, poiché manca di indipendenza e spesso anche di un’etichetta discografica: fare tutto in digitale da soli può avere i suoi vantaggi ma la percezione esterna non è la stessa. Esempi notevoli includono i Forsaken Legion del Ticino, dove è attivo anche il nostro batterista, e i Myrkvid della Svizzera francofona.
Con quattro album di grande impatto alle spalle, la vostra produzione creativa è stata incredibilmente costante. Come si è evoluto il vostro approccio alla composizione musicale dall’album di debutto al lavoro più recente? Sì, siamo estremamente orgogliosi della nostra creatività. Quattro album in sei anni sono davvero tanti. Il nostro processo di composizione è rimasto praticamente lo stesso degli inizi: Häxär crea la maggior parte dei riff e delle canzoni, mentre io scrivo i testi e suono il basso. I brani più sperimentali, con il violino e altri strumenti, sono per lo più frutto della mia creatività.
Parlateci meglio del vostro ultimo album “Der Schwarzen Flamme Vermächtnis”: cosa ne pensate dopo la sua pubblicazione? Ci sono canzoni che preferite? Com’è stata la collaborazione con la Purity Through Fire? Il nostro ultimo album è un disco feroce e combattivo che, pur abbracciando uno spirito di ritorno alle origini, riesce comunque a ritagliarsi spazio per atmosfera e profondità. Come già detto, incorpora il nostro giuramento alle antiche tradizioni, ai valori forgiati nel fuoco e nel sangue, molto prima che la corruzione della modernità si insinuasse. Ci opponiamo a questo mondo in decadenza, combattendo contro il progresso vuoto di una società malata. Ci piacciono tutte le canzoni dell’album ma la mia preferita è “The Rise Of The Older Ones” perché è un “vaffanculo” alla cancel culture, al woke e a coloro che parlano male di noi agli organizzatori di eventi e all’interno della scena.
L’aspetto visivo appare molto studiato e profondamente legato alla musica. Quanto sono importanti l’immaginario e l’estetica nel rappresentare l’essenza di Ernte? Le immagini e l’estetica in generale sono elementi centrali per noi, fanno parte della nostra arte e devono quindi integrarsi con essa. Häxär crea la maggior parte delle opere d’arte personalmente e ha un occhio meraviglioso per questo!
Grazie per il vostro tempo e per questa intervista. Le ultime parole spettano a voi, c’è qualcosa che vorresti dire ai fans italiani e ai maniaci dell’ underground che leggono questo articolo? Il mondo moderno è una piaga! Che la natura si sollevi e divori l’umanità. Che la Fiamma Nera consumi ciò che non avrebbe mai dovuto esistere!

After setting the stage ablaze with their highly anticipated first concert in Italy, Swiss band Ernte brings their icy, misanthropic black metal to our pages. Led by V Noir and Askahex, the Swiss band baptized the Italian audience with their dark ritual. A few days after their debut, here’s what they told us.
Hail Ernte! Welcome to our webzine. To kick things off, could you introduce the band to our readers? How did the project come to life back in 2020? Thank you for inviting us to this interview. In 2020, the year of the coronavirus, Häxär decided not to settle for just gloomy paintings and dark ambient sounds, but to indulge his old passion for ’90s black metal and start a project. He searched for suitable bandmates and, after a few false starts, found the right person in me, Askahex. We had a clear vision, and our goal from the very beginning was TO release an album on a label—which became a reality just one year later.
Your music perfectly embodies a very cold, traditional, and misanthropic atmosphere. What were the main musical and personal driving forces that led you to create Ernte? As I mentioned earlier, Häxär is heavily influenced by ’90s black metal. But he also enjoys listening to newer bands from Finland, France, or Germany. Personally, my history is rooted more within doom metal. I still like everything that’s slow, brutal, and extreme, but I also have a faible for the atmosphere and melodies of black metal. The absurdity of modernity and our contempt for the herd mentality of people also play a major role. But my lyrics are also inspired by the vast amount of literature I’ve read over the course of my life. As a specialist of German and Romance languages and literature, I’ve studied all eras of European literature in depth and read many inspiring texts – my absolute favorite is Georg Trakl.
Conceptually and spiritually, what does the essence of the “Black Flame” or the world of witchcraft and ancient spirits mean to you? How do these elements fuel your lyrical and musical inspiration? For us, the black flame primarily symbolizes ancient spirits, values and traditions. We see ourselves as the bearers of this flame, along with many other bands that also help ensure this fire will never go out. My lyrics deal, among other things, with ancient stories, myths, and legends, as well as witchcraft. The feminine and nature are closely connected.
Switzerland has a legendary history when it comes to extreme metal. How do you feel connected to your homeland’s heritage, and how is the current Swiss underground scene? Are there any bands of friends that you want to tell us? Yes, Switzerland certainly has some big names to offer – like Celtic Frost, Samael, and Coroner – considering how small our country is. Of course, you become aware of that when you start making extreme music yourself and listen to those old bands. For example, I listened to a lot of Samael back in 2002, when I joined my first «real band». But I don’t think you can hear that influence in ERNTE’s music. The Swiss black metal scene today is diverse, and there are quite a few good bands, including some very young ones. Most of them, however, will hardly become known beyond the country’s borders, as they lack independence and often a label as well – doing everything digitally on your own can have its advantages, but the external perception isn’t the same. Notable examples include Forsaken Legion from Ticino, where our drummer is also active, and Myrkvid from the French-speaking part of Switzerland.
With four powerful albums under your belt your creative output has been incrediblyconsistent. How has your approach to songwriting evolved from your debut “Geist und Hexerei” to your most recent work? Yes, we’re extremely proud of our creativity. Four albums in six years is quite a lot. Our songwriting process is still pretty much the same as it was in the beginning – Häxär comes up with most of the riffs and songs, and I write the lyrics and play bass. The more experimental songs, with violin and so on, are mostly my brainchild.
Tell us more about your last full lenght “Der schwarzen Flamme Vermächtnis”, how do you feel about It after the publication? Are there any songs you like most? How was the collaboration with Purity Through Fire? Our newest album is a fierce and war-driven record that, while embracing a back to-the-roots spirit, still carves out space for atmosphere and depth. As already said, it incorporates our oath to the old ways – to values forged in fire and blood, long before the rot of modernity crept in. We stand in defiance of this decaying world, waging war against the hollow progress of a sickened society. We like all the songs on the album, but my personal favorite is « The rise of the older ones » because it’s a “fuck you” to woke cancel culture and to those who badmouth us to event organizers and within the scene.
The visual aspect feels very deliberate and deeply tied to the music. How important is imagery and aesthetic in representing the essence of Ernte? Images and aesthetics in general are central elements for us; they are part of our art and should therefore fit in with it. Häxär creates most of the artwork himself and has a wonderful eye for it!

The modern world is a blight! May nature rise and devour mankind. Let the Black Flame consume what never should have been!
